Terms of Service

These terms cover Onset — the website at heyonset.com and the Onset application for macOS. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. If you do not, please do not use Onset.
Your account
You sign in with your email address and a one-time code. You are responsible for keeping access to that email address secure, and for what happens under your account. Tell us at support@heyonset.com if you think someone else has access to it.
You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live. If you are using Onset on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are allowed to accept these terms for it.
Plans
Onset is available on a free plan, a personal plan and a team plan. Paid plans are billed in advance and renew until you cancel. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep the plan until the end of the period you have paid for. Prices may change, and we will tell you before a change affects a renewal.
A team plan account belongs to an organisation. Whoever administers that organisation can add and remove members and can see the organisation’s account settings and usage.
Using Onset
Please do not:
- use Onset to break the law, or to help anyone else do so;
- use it to record or transcribe people who have not agreed to be recorded, where their agreement is required;
- resell it, or run it as a service for other people, without a written agreement with us;
- try to get around usage limits, or put load on the service that would degrade it for others;
- reverse engineer the app except where the law says you may.
We may suspend an account that is doing any of these, and we will tell you why when we can.
Your content
What you say and what Onset produces from it is yours. You give us the permission we need to run the service for you — to process, store and transmit that content — and, on the free and personal plans, to use it to improve and train our models. This is described in the Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms. Content from team plan accounts is not used to train models.
Availability
We work to keep Onset running and we do not promise it will never be unavailable. We may change or discontinue features. If we discontinue a paid plan you are on, we will refund the unused part of it.
No warranty, and limits on liability
Onset is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties about it, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost profits or data. Where we are liable, our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Ending it
You can stop using Onset and delete your account at any time. We may end your access if you break these terms, or with reasonable notice for any other reason, in which case we will refund any unused paid time.
Changes
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Onset after that means you accept the new terms.
